Parent Leader, West Philadelphia
My name is Renee Ali Brown and I am a mother of five children. All my children have been educated here in the city of Philadelphia. Three of my children are still educated in the Philadelphia school system. My children attend George Washington Carver High School, West Catholic, Discovery Charter School, and k12. I think of myself as an advocate for all the children in the city of Philadelphia. I have been a part of numerous educational initiates over the years. I have 8 years’ experience as a board member at Discovery Charter School here in Philadelphia. I was a part of 50 CANN inaugural class of advocates. While there it has helped me sharpen my skills at training the next group of advocates. I am also a member of Penn CANN. I have done work in educational advocacy with EOF (Equal Opportunities for Families). I have served as the Home and School President at Discovery Charter School for 8 years. I have also had the esteemed pleasure of raising over $50,000 in a single school year to help aid in the mission of Discovery Charter School. I am currently working as the Assistant Dean at Chester Community Charter School East D. I have taught 7 and 8-grade math at St. Ignatius. I have taught 2nd and 3rd grade at Chester Community Charter School. I have spoken at numerous rallies about equal and quality education. I am also a revolutionary speaker in having choice school in the city of Philadelphia. I have served on the election board of the 44th Ward 4th Division for well over 10 years. I also serve as a committee person for the 44th Ward 4th Division.
